NEWS & PRESS
New album RPM 2 in the works.
Jeff Gordon has begun work on the new double album RPM 2 which
will feature 20 recordings and 20 prints by 20 visual artists.
As with his very first compilation double album in 1980, RPM
2 will feature sound pieces and strange audio by painters
and visual artists not ordinarily accustomed to being in the
recording studio. Thus far, artists include Path Soong, Francis
Bacon, Bob Dylan, Connie Beckley, Robert C. Morgan, Yura Adams,
Royce Bannon, Joanna Pousette-Dart, T-Bone Wolk, Sky Pape,
Susan Breen, and Ron English.
In addition, Gordon has decided to do this new project release
as a vinyl double record album only, and no CDs will be for
sale. There will be both a Regular Edition album with pull
out poster and notes, as well as Deluxe Edition with 12" x
12" signed and numbered prints from each artist, all in black
and white. "Since RPM was the ice breaker, and set the precedent,
then I am doing the new one with this 1980 fornat in mind.
Of course, the artists are different, the recordings are different,
and the prints are different. I don't like CDs very much
and for covers and art works, CD size is like fast food. RPM
2 will be released on vinyl record in both Regular and Deluxe
Box editions."
Gordon projects to have the new double album by 2010, with
a tour of the exhibition in many art colleges, universities,
etc.
As of September 15, the Mezzanine Print Shop of the
Metropolitan
Museum of Art, NYC is carrying the Wu-shan visual artist
sound CDs and limited edition lithographs.
"Crossing The Line" Exhibition
The first exhibition of "Crossing The Line" took place at
June
Kelly Gallery, Soho, NYC from June 21 through August 1,
2008. Featured were limited edition prints created by Path
Soong, Connie Beckley, Daniel Johnston, Carter Ratcliff, and
Eric Fischl to accompany each of their recordings, as well
as a recording by Andy Warhol, and Ivan Karp. As the installation
photographs show, the exhibition, using ipods and headphones,
was beautifully minimal.
In Fall of 2009, the exhibition will travel to Dublin, Ireland,
where it will be shown at the FOUR
Gallery there. In addition to the 7 sound recordings and
prints, Jeff Gordon has decided to include, at the FOUR Gallery
show exclusively, the recording by Francis Bacon, In
Conversation, an hour long conversation between the
painter and Melvyn Bragg which is an intriguing, frank and
provocative discussion. As Bacon was born in Ireland, Gordon
will have new CD pressings made just for this show.
"I met Francis in the mid 1980's at his NYC Gallery and
we got along famously. He invited me to London to do a sound
recording with him, and to my regret, the trip never materialized.
It would have been an amazing recording, no doubt, as he was
interested in exploring bizarre sound and its effects. The
In Conversation CD with Melvyn Bragg is the next best
thing we have for those who attend the show in Dublin,
they will notice that as the conversation progresses, both
Francis and Melvyn deplete the supply of assorted drink, which
owing to the brightness, wit and intelligence of both, add
to the open and startlingly frank observations expressed.
The recording is also the only time ever that a Bacon painting
has been allowed as the album cover others have tried
for years and have always been turned down."
In addition, for this FOUR Gallery show, Gordon will have
made, a Limited Edition vinyl record version of the recordings
and art album covers by Path Soong, Connie Beckley, Daniel
Johnston, Carter Ratcliff, and Andy Warhol. Each vinyl album
will be in an edition of just 50 copies for sale, along with
the CDs and prints.
From Dublin, the show will travel to London, throughout the
UK, Paris, Berlin, Milan, and futher stops. As each show date
is verified, the info will be added here.
